I am a Licensed Mental Health Counselor (LMHC), a psychotherapist qualified by the State of New York to provide a range of mental health care services. My educational background includes a Bachelor of Arts in philosophy from Stevens Institute of Technology, a Master of Arts in forensic mental health counseling from John Jay College of Criminal Justice, CUNY, and the degree of Juris Doctor from Seton Hall University School of Law. I completed postgraduate training in psychodynamic psychotherapy at the institute of the Psychoanalytic Association of New York, affiliated with NYU Grossman School of Medicine.
Prior to becoming a therapist, I practiced law for fifteen years, predominantly as a litigator. My experience as an attorney afforded me the opportunity to assist clients through devastating personal crises, life changing events, and intense interpersonal conflicts. It also necessitated facing the rigors of one of the most challenging and demanding professions. This firsthand, practical experience in overcoming adversity informs my work as a clinician.
In addition to my private practice, I have provided psychotherapy in outpatient clinic settings, working with patients suffering from various forms of mental illness including depression, anxiety, personality disorders, neurodevelopmental disorders, and psychosis. I have also counseled patients mandated for outpatient treatment by the courts, as well as supervised and mentored psychotherapists in training.
My background as an attorney provides me with a pragmatic approach to therapy, which I utilize to help patients with treatment adapted to their specific needs. I specialize in working with professionals, including fellow lawyers, struggling to reach their full potential in their career, relationships, and other aspects of their life. I take particular pride in being able to offer services to people who would otherwise find it difficult to seek help.
